A Note from the Growing Recovery Facilitators

Originally founded as Recovery in Motion with MHAfred in 2013, we are excited to have Growing Recovery back at Mental Health America Fredericksburg Region. All support groups operating in partnership with MHAfred are facilitated by trained, Virginia certified, and experienced professionals.

Our facilitators have personal experience with mental health and/or substance use challenges and have successfully managed or overcome them. They offer support, encouragement, and empathy to individuals on their recovery journeys. All support groups listed below are offered at no cost.

  • We all have more in common than we think.
  • We understand and accept that everyone’s recovery journey is different and not linear.
  • We strive to give participants a sense of hope.
  • We treat participants with dignity, compassion, respect, and high regard.
  • We give each person choices and options, not final answers.
  • We strive to create a comfortable and safe environment.

About Action Planning for Prevention and Recovery

APPR is a self-directed recovery and wellness program that promotes personal awareness, health, and life transformation. Trained facilitators support individuals in identifying their unique self-help steps, life-skills, and personal strategies for maintaining their recovery. Though APPR was initially developed for people overcoming mental health and/or substance use disorders, it is equally beneficial for anyone seeking a more manageable life. Everyone is welcome to attend these free, drop-in sessions.

At Mental Health America Fredericksburg Region, Joe Stafford volunteers as the facilitator of these sessions.

Please note, there will be NO SESSION on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Consider joining us at the 2025 Walk for Mental Wellness.

APPR | Saturdays, 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. (In-Person)
